What we're about

During the COVID 2020 lockdown, we are monitoring the rules for opening back up and cancelling events month to month as needed. BUT, that doesn't mean we have stopped playing Mah Jongg!

We have moved our get togethers to the Zoom platform where we meet to socialize then break out into 3-4 person games (depending on attendance). Games are played on either myjonggpremium.net or realmahjongg.com. If you haven't played on either web site, they are subscription based sites, running about $5-$6/month. You do not have to join both sites to play with us - your choice of one site will suffice!

Our awesome team of players have organized these "high tech" gatherings. We meet several times each week for 1-2 hours, so there will probably be at least one game that will fit your schedule! If you want to participate, please contact Roger Olson at rogermolson@hotmail.com. He will make sure you are signed up to receive email notices about all of our games.

Here are the links for some of our games. Please contact Roger (info above) to be added to the email notification list.

Hope to see you online!

p.s. Our usual fundraising is postponed while we can't meet in person. However, we still encourage you to contribute to local charities of your choice, especially those that will help your neighbors who have lost jobs or businesses during the lockdown.

What a great way to make new friends, and have fun while helping others! We are proud to announce that as of January 2019, our generous Mah Jongg Fever-ites have donated more than $4,600 to a wide range of worthy causes, such as: Northwest Harvest, Childhaven, Doctors Without Borders, Real Change Seattle, Americares, Am. Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Kubota Gardens, Hopelink, Cancer Research, Wellspring, Operation Homefront, Country Doctor, and so many more!

Join us and meet with other local people to play American Mah Jongg. National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) rules. If you are a beginner, no problem, we teach! We have all levels of play and we're looking to encourage beginners, improve our own play, and be challenged by experts. More importantly, we love having fun playing with good friends, introducing the game to new people and raising money for charity!

Thursday Evening Mah Jongg Fever

Panama Hotel Tea & Coffee House

We play American Mah Jongg according to National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) rules and raise money for charity.

Beginners are welcome!

Since this is a public restaurant, we encourage everyone to purchase their beverages and snacks from the Tea House. They have tea, coffee, adult beverages and pastry. On occasion they also have quiche and might return to their original salad and sandwich menu. Let's hope they do!

Look for on-street parking which is inexpensive and free after 8PM. Parking can be tight, but there are usually enough spots within 2 blocks.

For our charity we suggest a $5 per evening donation.

We start early so we can fit in several games before 9PM Feel free to come when you can and leave when you must! See above for address and a link to directions to the Panama Hotel Tea & Coffee House, conveniently located in the International District.

Open to the public - everyone is welcome!

Wednesday 1 PM Mah Jongg Fever!

Uptown Espresso

We are an informal group that has been meeting in the afternoons on Wednesdays for several years now. Consequently sometimes people forget to RSVP "yes" here. When that happens, we won't know how many people will actually be in attendance. So occasionally, (especially in mid-summer), we end up with less than 3 people. If this happens, be aware that the meet-up may be cancelled. To avoid this possibility, it would be helpful if everyone who plans to attend on a particular date took a moment to RSVP "yes" at least 1 day in advance. That way we'd all know ahead of time how many people to expect.

- When you come, if you can, bring a card, if you have one, and a set, in case we need an extra one. But no worries if you don't, because we usually have extras. We often have two full tables and sometimes three!

- It's free to play. However, we ask that you make a donation to our "kitty" when you attend. The amount is up to you. Some people who come regularly just donate $20/month. Others put in a few dollars each week. The "kitty" donations go to worthy charities, local and global. We rotate who we take charity suggestions from, so we always find worthy causes to support from the members of this generous group. To name just a few charities we have donated to in the past: Northwest Harvest (food bank), Kubota Garden, International Rescue Committee, Hopelink, Treehouse Foster Care, Operation Homefront, Westside Baby, The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, Country Doctor, and many more.... you get the idea!

- Also, since this is a public restaurant, we encourage everyone to purchase beverages and snacks. This is the best way to show our appreciation for being allowed to use this free space.

- Mah Jongg Fever was founded to play American Mah Jongg according to National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) rules and raise money for charity.

- We teach beginners and we are open to the public - everyone is welcome!

- Come and play with us in the evenings and/or join us for daytime games. We hope to see you at either or both venues and may the Joker Fairy smile on you!
