Talks Night v0.4.2 - Hack your finances & Developer relations at interview
Hi Makers, After the sell-out, oversubscribed, incredible last instalment of 📣 Makers Talks Night 📣, we're back again and aiming to make it even better. We had 60 attendees in August, let's see if we can push it even higher 📈. It's a really fun and insightful evening open to Makers and do please bring a guest if you wish - friend, family, colleague, coder. NOTE: RSVPs on Meetup are intentionally closed, please register on Eventbrite to help us check people in and know catering numbers: Talks 1st: Johann Bornman (August 2014): How to hack your finances. Johann, who runs a fintech startup (that's currently hiring), wants to dispel some of the myths, jargon and BS related to personal finances. He will be teaching us how to be smarter with our money along with highlighting some free tech tools. He'll then touch on the concept of Financial Wellness (which relates and directly impacts mental and physical wellness) and give a brief update on what he's working on. 2nd: Margo Urey (August 2013): Better developer relations start with the interview. The importance of soft skills for successful developer teams cannot be overestimated. First impressions set the tone for developer relations and the interview is where you make that first impression. Here are a few ways companies got it right and got it wrong; and how you can take control to start things off on the right foot. Lightning Talks ⚡ These are 6-minute talks on any topic of your choice, not necessarily code-related. No prep needed, just put your name on the whiteboard before the event begins. Food 🌯 and Drinks 🍹 There will be drink (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and 🚫🍕(non-pizza) food (vegetarian, vegan, non-vegetarian-vegan and gluten-free). Schedule 6:30pm: Food and drinks 7:00pm: Talks start 8:45pm: Pop down to the pub Submit a Talk Would you like to give a talk?
