Sewing Series: Pleated Mask

In this beginner-focused class, we'll make our own custom masks! About this Event If you’re going to have to wear a mask, why not wear your own? We will go over sewing basics like pressing, pinning, pleats, accurate seams, and more! The provided mask pattern will allow you to sew sizes for the whole family at home or in our Makerspace. All materials are included. We’ll discuss how fabric choices affect our final products and see examples. You’ll learn basic customization options and make either the tie or elastic version to take home with you. Not recommended for children under 12. Please contact us prior to class to let us know if you’ll be using your machine or one of ours. MakerSpace Charlotte dues-paying members can contact Steve for discounted tickets. MIG Welding for Beginners

For Tickets: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/mig-welding-for-beginners-tickets-118236920813 You will learn how to “Run a Bead” and to make a “Fillet” weld with mild steel. Instructor Ben Baker will go over the items needed to be safe while welding and the proper settings on the welding machine for our application. The class fee covers all materials and safety gear will be provided (if you have your own welding hood and/or gloves, feel free to bring them). MakerSpace Charlotte dues-paying members can contact Steve for a $15 discount. Please wear clothes that can tolerate sparks: closed-toe shoes, jeans, and a long sleeve cotton shirt are recommended. Minors will require an adult to take the class with them. Face coverings are required. Masks must cover nose and mouth, as mandated in NC. Make Your Own Cutting Board

For Tickets: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/make-your-own-cutting-board-tickets-121218344331 We will go over the basics of making an edge grain cutting board from walnut, cherry, and maple wood which will yield roughly a 9x15 board. About this Event This is a 2-day class! It will take place this Saturday and Sunday starting at 10 am and running until 2 pm. The class fee is $60 and covers all materials. Dues-paying members receive contact Steve for discount information. Learn skills for flattening, sanding, jointing, and glue-ups. Tools used will be the table saw, jointer, planer, drum sander, and routing table. Minors will require an adult to take the class with them. Face coverings and eye protection are required. No sandals. Goggles available upon request. Masks must cover nose and mouth, as mandated in NC. Hand sanitizer and bathrooms are available for hand washing during the event. In this 3-hour class, you'll make your very own beer caddy with bottle opener and magnetic cap catcher! About this Event Prost! It’s the most magical time of the year again, Oktoberfest! And what better way to celebrate than to make your own beer caddy! Your caddy will handle a six-pack of your favorite beverage and comes complete with a bottle opener and a hidden magnet to catch the falling bottle caps. All ages are welcome, but under 18 must be accompanied by adults. Participants should bring their own eye and ear protection and all participants must wear a mask and practice good social distance.
