What we're about

Hatch is Watertown's Makerspace. It is a public workshop with space, equipment, and materials available for your use. All of Hatch's workshops and events are free, however, we ask that makers don't RSVP unless they are able to attend so they don't prevent other makers from attending. Makers who RSVP for workshops with limited registration and fail to show three times will be removed from the group.

We want to give everyone in Watertown the opportunity to become a maker. We want neighbors to share skills with each other. We want to see you learning from and teaching each other. Becoming a maker is not about talent - it’s about collaboration, creative problem solving, and the development of a curious and tenacious spirit.

Hatch is an initiative of the Watertown Free Public Library with support from the Watertown Community Foundation and the Watertown Free Public Library Building Committee. The WFPL thanks the Residence at Watertown Square for generously hosting Hatch, free of charge, at their facility on 20 Summer St.

Open Code Drop-In

HATCH

Bring a programming project or start a new one during our open coding hours, for beginners to experts. During this co-working session, get help learning to code with Python, OpenSCAD, LEGO Mindstorms or any language you have set up on your laptop! Bring your own project and bounce ideas off our volunteers or other members of the Hatch community! Like all Hatch Drop-Ins, you may come for all or a part to ask questions and get targeted help on your own project; this is not a workshop.

Mechatronics Drop-In

HATCH

Bring a project, help a project, exchange ideas, or just watch and learn. We will be exploring Arduino, Raspberry PI, motion control and sensor technologies together. Like all Hatch Drop-Ins, you may come for all or a part to ask questions and get targeted help on your own project; this is not a workshop.

Laser Cutter 101

HATCH

This is the required training to use the Hatch laser cutter. You will learn the basics of setting up a job, safety considerations, acceptable materials, running a job, and troubleshooting. This training WILL NOT show you how to design a project. This is the first step in becoming an approved independent user of the machine. You must be 16 or older to be trained and use the laser cutter independently. Space for this class is extremely limited, please only RSVP if you are DEFINITELY going to show up. If you RSVP Yes and then fail to show, you are restricting someone else from learning. Please be a good maker and leave the space for people who can commit to that date and time.

Playtest Drop-In

HATCH

Into games? VR development? We invite you to join other gaming enthusiasts for a weekly session of development, playtesting, sharing, and feedback. Maybe you're not sure how to build that deck a little better, maybe you want to 3D print custom meeples, maybe you want to create a virtual world? Our volunteer game enthusiasts are here to help! Like all Hatch Drop-Ins, you may come for all or a part to ask questions and get targeted help on your own project; this is not a workshop.
