What we're about

Hatch is switching workshop registration to Eventbrite. You can find all of our upcoming listings here: https://www.eventbrite.com/o/watertown-free-public-library-8357840194 An RSVP on Meetup will no longer reserve your spot. Hatch will be removing the Makers-of-Hatch-Makerspace Meetup entirely in September 2019. If you are worried about staying informed about all the great free workshops offered here, please sign up for Hatch's monthly newsletter which lists all upcoming workshops, events, and drop-in sessions: https://signup.e2ma.net/signup/1710493/1706754/?v=a

Hatch is Watertown's Makerspace. It is a public workshop with space, equipment, and materials available for your use. All of Hatch's workshops and events are free, however, we ask that makers don't RSVP unless they are able to attend so they don't prevent other makers from attending. Makers who RSVP for workshops with limited registration and fail to show three times will be removed from the group.

We want to give everyone in Watertown the opportunity to become a maker. We want neighbors to share skills with each other. We want to see you learning from and teaching each other. Becoming a maker is not about talent - it’s about collaboration, creative problem solving, and the development of a curious and tenacious spirit.

Hatch is an initiative of the Watertown Free Public Library with support from the Watertown Community Foundation and the Watertown Free Public Library Building Committee. The WFPL thanks the Residence at Watertown Square for generously hosting Hatch, free of charge, at their facility on 20 Summer St.

Every year, The MIT museum gathers scores of local teams, linking together each team’s Rube Goldberg contraption in a huge, connected chain reaction. We’ll meet monthly and tinker with various mechanisms, triggers and effects and take notes as we do. We should have a good store of fun ‘links’ in the chain when the MIT Museum announces this year’s theme. At that point, we’ll put together an official Hatch Team (or two!) and create our final contraption based on the announced theme. Please note that monthly attendance is not required. All of the experiments we conduct will be recorded and saved in a wiki that we’ll draw upon for our final Rube Goldberg at the F.A.T. event.
