Monthly Adult Maker Club
The Monthly Maker Club is a drop-in session aimed at giving you the opportunity to try out the tech kit we have at Guildford Library; teach yourselves (with minimal support) about it; develop your maker ideas and share your making enthusiasm and knowledge with others. We want to emphasise that this club isn't a teaching event like the Arduino course or other workshops we've run, as it will be focused on self-learning. It's primarily aimed at adults, but anyone aged 12 and over will be welcome. The club meets on the first Tuesday afternoon of the month. As it's a drop-in session you can turn up and leave at any time between 3pm and 5pm. As the building will be undergoing some electrical maintenance work, the maker club will only be able to run during these hours in October, November and December 2018. We have the following kit for you to use, and with your input we want to expand on this: • 3D printer • Silhouette Cameo paper cutter • Makey Makey x 2 • Arduino • Raspberry Pi x 4 • Ozobots x 4 • Little bits kits • Mbot • Meccano Meccanoid programmable robot We also have a range of maker, coding, and electronics books available for you to use. Bring a laptop if you can, although a handful will be available.

What we're about

Join us for digital events on a wide range of subjects: Code Club and Pocket Coding Self- and e-publishing Build your own website Making the most of your tablet Minecraft sessions Maker Makey, programmable lego, Arduino and other fun electronic / robotic kits 3d printing Making your own virtual reality headset ... and many other subjects. Surrey Library Service has an ambition to host a makerspace: a place where people can meet to collaborate, create, learn, and innovate. It is a project that would help young people, small businesses, and the local creative economy, supporting the Council's goals of increasing wellbeing, supporting the Surrey economy, and improving residents' experience. We run Digital Friday, a programme of events which takes place on the last Friday of the month, usually at Guildford library. The aim is to establish the library service's reputation as making interesting digital things happen, to make contacts within relevant local organisations, and to build a list of people willing to act either as steering group members or as volunteers for a possible makerspace. So join us if you want to take part - either to help us work towards a makerspace at Guildford library, or simply to participate in one of our digital events.
