This group is primarily for people interested in walking at their own pace for one to one and half hours in the Malahide area. There is a strong social element to the group in that good friendships have been formed, and we usually enjoy a coffee and chat after a walk.
Please note that this is a club and everyone is responsible for their own safety. Consequently we do not have group insurance, and you will not be able to claim against the group for any injury or loss you might incur whilst participating in group activities. You may wish to take out separate insurance on a personal basis to cover any such eventuality.
We also have some purely social meet ups, mainly on an ad hoc basis.
View the calendar to see what is coming up, and RSVP to anything you are interested in attending.
Any member can make suggestions for events on the website. These will be announced once there are 3 positive RSVP's.
There is a €5 pa membership fee. We ask for this once you have attended 1 or 2 walks. It is charged on calendar year basis, in other words the same fee applies whatever month of the year you join. This is because any other arrangement imposes too much of an administrative burden.
To explain DUMMY - this is important to understand!! Noreen wrote the following verse in explanation:
WHO IS THE DUMMY
An imaginary friend?
Who walks with us invisibly,
And shares coffee at the end.
Barbara, here's the secret,
Our dummy is no ghost,
You know her just as we do,
Our friend and Meet-up Host.
Due to the fact that organisers are generally unable to commit to hosting every or most walks on a certain day, but we need to have someone to schedule walks, Dummy was created. However, if you see that you have RSVP'ed to an event and the only other attendee is Dummy you will be on your own....
The website produces a lot of emails/spam and you can limit what you receive or how you receive it by adjusting the settings on your member profile. Please also note that the app which is available for the site shows US, not local, times so check out the correct Dublin time before arranging to attend events.
This group has been a tremendous success, attracting people of all types but like minds, and has been a rewarding experience for the vast majority of people who join in. If you want further information please feel free to email an organiser.
