What we're about

We are building community for GBTQ men in Chicago.

As brothers in The Mankind Project - Chicago (http://chicago.mkp.org/), we host gatherings where men can talk openly about what is happening in their lives and receive support from other men. We sit in circle (http://mkpusa.org/soul-of-the-work-2-the-magic-of-mens-circles/) to eliminate the traditional male hierarchy: Every man can see, sense, and feel the other men. All men are equal, so we can "remove the masks," find our authentic voices, and speak our truths. While facing ourselves openly and honestly, in the presence of other men, we can open ourselves to deeper self-exploration in order to cultivate a sense of meaning, purpose, intimacy, truth, connection and direction in our lives.

Register (https://mkpconnect.org/civicrm/event/register?reset=1&id=4755) for the September 2019 GBTQQ Gateway New Warrior Training Adventure (http://mankindpride.mkpusa.org/sample-page-2/) in Chicago.

As an integral part of MKP - Chicago, our group is dedicated to making men's work accessible to every man. Typically, men complete the traditional New Warrior Training Adventure (NWTA) (http://chicago.mkp.org/new-warrior-training-adventure/faq/), a modern version of the "hero's journey" described in literature. While it is not a substitute for traditional psychotherapy and psychiatric treatment, the NWTA offers men a powerful opening to looking at themselves, where they are in their lives, and what they want to pursue as well as let go.

Our GBTQQ gatherings honor the distinctive personal and cultural experiences that often hinder our self-expression and distort our development. They also foster the healing we need to reclaim our gifts and start living more authentic, meaningful lives. By always staffing our events with a majority of "men like us," we ensure the high levels of interpersonal safety and trust we need to promote emotional vulnerability and take the risks that lead to personal transformation.

In September 2019, we are hosting a GBTQQ Gateway New Warrior Training Adventure, our version of the NWTA. A Gateway NWTA offers men the chance to begin doing their work as members of a majority whose experiences are a given rather than an exception. See . Our Chicago community also offers the more standard NWTA several times a year. All men - including men from our communities - are equally welcome at any of these initiation weekends.

MKP-Chicago also offers Open Circles (http://igroups.jbowes.net/igroupfaq.php?igr...) (click the photo arrows for a slide show) and on-going Integration Groups (http://igroups.jbowes.net/igroupfaq.php?igr...) that provide men with support and opportunities for deep healing work. If you would like to sample our warrior work, we invite you to visit one or more of the Open Circles listed on our calendar. If you would like to join an existing I Group for an evening, please contact me.

GBTQQ-focused Open Circle

The Chicago Men's Center

We invite you to join us for special GBTQQ-focused Open Circles at our Chicago Men’s Center. The Circles are similar to the CAAS story-telling format with opportunities to do a deeper dive into self-exploration. Open Circles are a great way for all men to learn about and experience men's work without making the bigger commitment to the New Warrior Training Adventure. Sitting in circle, we create a welcoming, confidential space that enables us to talk about ourselves in ways that men rarely can or do in our daily lives. Each participant chooses whether to share information - and how personal it is - or to take a pass, depending on his comfort level. In this Open Circle, you will have the chance to • discover areas of your life where you have given up your power • identify the different masks you wear in public and • take off one of the masks, briefly, so you can touch and express the more authentic YOU in a safe environment of men supporting each other. Any man is welcome to show up for any Open Circle without an advance reservation. You might want to attend with these Circles with men you already know from our MeetUp group. We also encourage you to bring any male friends, acquaintances, colleagues, and/or relatives. For more information, feel free to contact me through this MeetUp. To learn about other events in our Summer Schedule, be sure to check out ManKindPride Chicago.org We hope you can join us!

GBTQQ Coffee & A Story

Bru Coffee

We are a welcoming, easy-going group of men who are looking for more genuine connections and a deeper sense of community in our lives. As GBTQQ men affiliated with The Mankind Project, we invite you to join us for interesting conversation over a cup of coffee as we launch this new monthly gathering of men. Guidelines: Each month we start with a topic and invite men to share a story around that topic. The Story should be told from a personal experience. Each story will have a limit of 3 - 4 minute time slot. We ask that each story is told without interruption (aside from, gasps, laughter, acknowledgment, or other forms of expressiveness - of course!). After a man shares his story, we will have a 4-5 minute round robin discussion that welcomes men to comment on how the story connected with them. We start at 12:30 p.m. and ask that you arrive early enough to order your coffee and settle in for a fun time of storytelling. Come to share or just to listen as you enjoy a cup of joe and the company of like-minded men. This month’s Story Topic: To be determined. Also, feel free to bring any other interested GBTQQ men with you (please RSVP). Looking forward to seeing you!

Any man is welcome to show up for any Open Circle without an advance reservation. You might want to attend with men you already know from our MeetUp group. We also encourage you to bring any male friends, acquaintances, colleagues, and/or relatives.
