Details
NB As Man U are at home on 10 Nov with a KO at 1430 (and with the Circus being a Reds pub) we are now meeting this date only at the Britons Protection. We will call at the Circus at a later point in the day.
PLEASE READ THE IMPORTANT "NEED TO KNOW" INFO BELOW BEFORE ATTENDING.
NOTE - Due to the popularity of this event I've set up TWO repeat events on 24 November and again on 12 January. Both 10 and 24 November are over-subsctibed so If you're able to attend the January event please RSVP there and come off this one. Thanks.
Travel back in time with Manchester Pubs and Beer...
It's 1979, 40 years ago. The final section of the Arndale Centre had just opened, there were just three television channels, most pubs offered a choice of mild or bitter...all day pub opening was still a distant dream...
Camra's Good Beer Guide was in its sixth edition. Priced £2.35 the 1979 edition listed eight pubs in Manchester City Centre, plus a couple more just across into the nearest part of Salford.
Most of those 10 pubs are still thriving but sadly some are no longer with us. Join me with my 1979 GBG on this exploration back in time where we'll call at the pubs still standing, and mourn those that have passed, while calling at a nearby substitute.
IMPORTANT "NEED TO KNOW" INFO:
This event is as much a guided walk as a traditional pub crawl. Please therefore be prepared to:
-
Join at the start as the exact itinerary will only be established on the day;
-
Be ready to move on to the next port of call together as a group;
-
I will be providing brief historical info on the pubs and showing old photos - please pay attention when I'm doing so
-
We will generally be walking between the different pubs but in a couple of cases will take a short bus ride using the free bus or regular bus. Again, please stick with the group so we arrive at each pub together.
