Numberwang #2 - Turning Knowledge into Understanding
Details
A (no longer tentative) placeholder for Numberwang Number 2!
The theme for the session...addressing how, across all data disciplines, we move as practitioners from "Knowledge" to "Understanding".
If you'd like to share your thoughts, stories and experiences on this at the next session, we'd love to hear from you!
We're off and running ! Our first of three speakers - excited to announce Frank Hopkins (BBC). Frank is going to discuss the connection between Experimentation and Olympic Weightlifting, the transition to digital data, the challenges (and nightmares!) that data-gathering raised from the outset, and how that experience helped him considerably as he moved to the BBC. He’s going to explore with you his process and how turning knowledge into understanding underpins ideation at the BBC; ideas coming from people with varied backgrounds and the need to manage expectations and prioritise ideas at such a vast company, whilst considering individual technical capabilities.
Our second speaker is Lewis Carroll, who will be bringing a social conscience to our theme of Turning Knowledge into Understanding : he'll be discussing an award-winning piece of work that blended social data sets to tell a powerful story focussing on the origins and ongoing challenge of homelessness in Manchester.
Our third speaker is Agata Adamiak. In her talk, Agata will break down the effectiveness of using best practice when developing digital experiences. Based on prominent brand examples, she will uncover how our knowledge of best practice UX design can be applied in practical terms to truly reflect our understanding of user motivations. This will include cases where best practice applications have gone right and wrong - and, most importantly, what we can learn from these examples.
Three speakers with very different but equally interesting stories to tell. I'm looking forward to seeing them, and you, on the 25th!
