Streamlining Development with CI/CD

Things have changed since I first entered the world of software development. I saw source control as a dark art, and stored backups in zip files! Now we have tools that make development a nicer experience, and foremost reduce risk when deploying or fixing features. In this talk I will cover the the benefits of CI/CD, existing services one can use, and GitLab's CI pipeline.

3. Nicholas Mitchell (@TheNickyYo) - Software Engineer, Shaping Cloud

Just Build an MVP, Get Your Idea out There!

I'll be talking about the Northern Fail app, how it was hacked together over a couple of weekends and went viral with over 20k downloads. I'll show you his MVP approach and how bad - erm I mean how MVP it is.

Elm is both a front end framework that utilises a virtual DOM, and functional programming language. In this talk I will demonstrate how to build a simple web app using Elm, and look at how it can interop with JavaScript.

6. Paula Banks - Web Developer, Substance

From Scientist to Programmer

It seems like eons ago I studied and worked in Biosciences before deciding to join the Software Development community. Switching careers can be challenging but with curiosity, perseverance and countless disarming memes, it can change your life. In my talk, I'll cover experiences and why I have never looked back.

Sinfully Insecure

"Major security flaw in virtual reality porn app SinVR exposes the perverted secrets of 20,000 users". This headline ran in The Daily Mail after Digital Interruption discovered a security vulnerability in virtual reality porn application SinVR. Using this flaw, we were able to view details of users including their full names, email addresses, PC names and even whether they paid for the service. In this talk, we'll look at how we discovered the vulnerability and our experience reporting this issue to a vendor that did not want to listen.

8. Amy Newton (@InterimAmy) - Founder of inclusively.tech

Diversity and Inclusion in Hiring for your Tech teams

Join me for a whistle stop tour of how embracing Diversity and Inclusion in your tech hiring process can see you lightyears ahead of your competition from a hiring perspective. There will be a trigger warning at the beginning of the talk, and if anybody would like to leave the room, that is completely acceptable. Fair warning - this talk is most commonly described as 'highly controversial'.
