I attended an event at BBC Manchester last week by http://300seconds.co.uk/ , it was primarily to encourage more women to speak at technical events. I thought it would be a good idea to use the format for one of our events.
It can be scary speaking in front of others, even a lightning talk for 20 minutes can feel daunting. However a 300 second talk – 5 minutes with a few slides – can seem more manageable and it does get better the more practice you have.
So, try giving a 5 minute talk on any aspect of Java, frameworks, systems etc. Let me know if you would like to
speak. I realise this isn’t enough time to get deeply technical into a subject but we should have enough time left over for networking and ad hoc technical chats.
Hope to see you there.
