I'm Charlotte, the organizer, and I've been painting and teaching mandalas for almost 20 years. Back then, I just wanted to express my creative urges, and they were an easy and wonderful way to start making art. But as you know, mandalas have held an important place in the history of sacred art, and their profound energy and teachings have made them a center of my spiritual practice.
I created this group to spread the joy of making mandalas. There is a joy in being inspired and immersed in the process of creation. There is joy in choosing colors and watching the mandala come to life and joy in making the final touches that enhance its beauty even more. There is the joy in appreciating and sharing what you have created. And there is the simple joy of just putting paint on canvas.
Making art is a chance to slow down and step out of the "normal" world. It's an opportunity to practice calming yourself as you bring yourself mindfully into the process. And it's so much fun - whether you are painting alone or in a group. Mandalas themselves are a perfect way to integrate your right and left brain, and the benefits from doing so are similar to meditating. The symmetry and repetition stimulates the left brain while the color and creative process satisfies the right.
Absolute beginners are invited. I was a beginner when I started, and I try to be the kind of teacher I had - gentle and encouraging. There is no critique, only suggestions and support. I offer on-going courses, workshops, and private lessons at my studio in Laguna Hills. All the materials for courses and workshops are supplied.
