Learn how to use data of the city of Amsterdam to make your own maps!
This Maptime will take place at Datalab (Weesperstraat 113, Amsterdam).
Datalab is a working space, knowledge hub and open stage. A place where everyone is invited to work open and safe with data for Amsterdam. At Datalab the city is working on making plenty of datasets open to use.

After an introduction by Datalab we will be presented a very special sneak preview of the Atlas project Datalab is working on. Atlas Amsterdam will officially be launched somewhere in spring 2017.
Then it will be time to open up your laptop and figure out how to make a map from an API using QGIS or Leaflet. Do these words sound new to you? Don’t worry! An introduction and manual for beginners will be provided. If this sounds like a piece of cake to you and you are more experienced, a real Datalab challenge could be something for you. Maptime is for all skill levels! This is what Maptime is all about: a time and space for collaborative learning, exploration, and map creation.
Drinks are kindly provided by Datalab and you're welcome to bring your own snacks or dinner to Datalab.
We’ll try to do most of this Maptime in English, however most of the datasets will be in Dutch.
This Maptime will be a hands-on, so make sure to bring your laptop!

About Maptime AMS
Maptime Amsterdam is a monthly map hack night hosted by Waag Society. We meet to work on maps, learn about geospatial data, and teach each other the latest cartographic tools.
Maptime is, rather literally, time for mapmaking. Our mission is to open the doors of cartographic possibility to anyone interested by creating a time and space for collaborative learning, exploration, and map creation using mapping tools and technologies.
This open learning environment for all levels and degrees of knowledge offers intentional support for the beginner. Maptime is simultaneously flexible and structured: creating space for workshops, ongoing projects with a shared goal, and independent/collaborative work time.
Inspiration for Maptime comes from both hack nights and knitting circles. Both are models of spaces for people to create and learn together. Our goal is to provide this space with an open heart and without pretension. You can bring your own projects to work on, just hang out and socialize, or ask questions. Some people are experts, and some people are just getting started, but all of us are learning. So, why not do it together?
