This is a group for book lovers of all ages in and around Maynooth. It'll be easy-going with no pressure to finish a book that you just don't like. Life's too short for that! Just come along and tell us what you liked or hated - the conversation generally moves on to a whole heap of other things anyway.
We aim to read a book a month - all suggestions welome :-)
1) Our first book this month is "The Teacher" by Katerina Diamond.
Described as "A Shocking and Compelling New Crime Thriller - Not for the Faint-Hearted!" 😯😨😱🙌
'A web of a plot that twists and turns and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. This formidable debut is a page-turner, but don’t read it before bed if you’re easily spooked!’
You think you know who to trust? You think you know the difference between good and evil? You’re wrong …
2) For the non-fiction readers, our other book is "Digital Minimalism: On Living Better with Less Technology" by Cal Newport.
Have you ever found it hard to put your phone down? Cal Newport says "Digital minimalists are all around us. They’re the calm, happy people who can hold long conversations without furtive glances at their phones. They can get lost in a good book, a woodworking project, or a leisurely morning run. They can have fun with friends and family without the obsessive urge to document the experience. They stay informed about the news of the day, but don’t feel overwhelmed by it. They don’t experience “fear of missing out” because they already know which activities provide them with meaning and satisfaction."
This very readable book offers approaches and strategies you can use to help regain control of your life.
Look forward to seeing you in the back of "The Snug" bar as usual.
