Vancouver, BC

Organizer since:

May 18, 2009

How did you hear about this group?

I started it. I'm a very imperfect host but trying my best on a volunteer basis to provide a wide range of plant based events for members. We have a great group of assistant organizers, too.

What's your favourite vegetarian restaurant in Greater Vancouver?

Can't choose just one. Among my favourites are Indigo Food, Po Kong, Sun Bo Kong, The Arbor, Lucha Verde, Meet on Main, and Chau Veggiexpress.

What's your favourite Greater Vancouver non-veg restaurant that has veg options?

Wallflower, Axum, East is East, and Nuba rank high on my list.

WHICH describes how you eat: omnivore (meat, fish, dairy, eggs, produce etc.) vegetarian (no meat/fish), vegan (no meat, fish, dairy, eggs), pescaterian (fish but no meat), flexitarian (usually veg, but not always), or raw foodist?

Vegan working towards a whole foods diet. I'm inspired by members who have cut out oil and sugar from their diet. I'm not there yet.

Do you follow Earthsave Canada (, the charity that promotes the plant based diet?

No longer on the Board of Directors or a volunteer but still a member. It's a worthwhile charity to support, since no other charities seem to be educating us about the impacts of food choices on the environment.

Trying to change the world, one bite at a time.

What Nancy is saying about this Meetup Group

Hard to generalize once a group gets above three thousand people! I especially like that this group is welcoming to non-vegetarians. We all have an awareness that our food choices impact the planet and wanting to shift to more plant based foods unites us. Don't assume the members you see in an animated conversation are all long time friends. In fact the people you're seeing may be mostly strangers! It's just that kind of group--people make friends fast because we tend to have a lot in common.
