MECHANICON 2016 - Mechanical Keyboard Meetup in Darmstadt

This will be our first meetup! We'll meet in a friendly atmosphere in a cool location to show off and talk about our keyboards.

There will be free pizza!

Stay tuned for more information on the program and location.

Für die, die mit den Öffentlichen anreisen wollen - eine Lauf-Minute entfernt befindet sich die Bushaltestelle Spessartring der Linie F (vom Hauptbahnhof Darmstadt aus in Richtung „Oberwaldhaus“ erreichbar).

  This is a very cool idea! After seeing all the vintage keyboards I also got curious about the restoration of old keyboards. I got a CPC 464 where the keyboard could use some love :)

Hey everyone! Thanks for coming by, we really had a great afternoon! I learned a lot and envied a lot of great keyboards. :D

Big thanks to all our sponsors! I think we had a great raffle and very cool giveaways.

And a big thank you goes out to all the attendees that donated a bit to cover our costs! Our biggest cost factor was the pizza with 205 Eur and we were able to cover almost all of it with 180 Eur in donations! We are happy to take care of the rest.

Nice meetup. I found out about the WOOTING because of this and definitely am buying it now that I got to try it in person. Also got to test a few other switch types I was planning to try and got some ideas on what kind of keycap sets I might start using soon and learnt about some stuff I didn't really know about before :)
Just 2 months ago I bought a pok3r and now I'm fully sold to this amazing hobby.

Thanks for the nice event: It was a very good opportunity to try other keyboards and chat with other clackers about their choices. The selected time slot was an excellent choice for me, Christian, this way I was able to be at home before my children go to bed 😉 Furthermore I was surprised to find vegan pizza. 👍

  There is a seller on German Ebay selling black G80-18xx keyboards at 15€ each including shipping. They even come with USB connection and I consider them an amazing start into the mechanical keyboard hobby. Fully mechanical, popular layout and great color. If I can make it I will bring my TK78 (either with Zealios or Zealistotles) and maybe, if it arrives in time, something else that I don't want to spoil right now (it'll be something interesting for sure). I can also bring an old ALPS.tw clone board if there is enough interest.

  What kind of zealios would you put on the TK78? Zealistotles would be awesome to try out, I don't think I'll ever get the chance to build with those, so I'd at least like to know how they feel.

Is there going to be a keyboard presentation area where participants can exhibit some interesting models? What's the main focus of interest here? I thought it might be interesting to bring some keyboards with a variety of custom keycap sets (DSA, SA, GMK). Is there also interest in great vintage keyboards? A nice Alps keyboard and some IBM buckling springs?

  super cool! thank you for coming. I have soooo many questions! why did you want to make a mechanical keyboard in the first place? how did you come up with your design decisions? how large is your development team? are you planning on making more keyboards and/or other products in the input device area? Also, what I think would be really interesting is the process of getting an idea to a kickstarter-worthy product level – like, how much time the planning took, how much money you had to shell out to make prototypes, what kind of planning you did, maybe some failures/learnings/"how NOT to get your product to kickstarter" … ? Oh well. I'm sure you have some good stories to tell anyway!
