This group is for anyone interested in having a weekly respite supported by a bit of community. Give yourself this wonderful gift to recharge, quiet your mind, and reset. Most of the content will be provided by Dharma Ocean. If you would like to learn about this path, please visit https://www.dharmaocean.org . I have been a casual student of Tibetan Buddhism for 20 years, however, I am not a Buddhist. One does not have to subscribe to any religious dogma to practice meditation. Meditate Palatine is a secular meditation community. .

This group is about mindfulness and meditation practice. You may have heard of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. He was a wonderful teacher and mentor to many students and is responsible for a significant part of the mindfulness movement here in the western hemisphere. Dharma Ocean is a meditation center based in Boulder, CO, and was founded by Reginald A. Ray, Ph.D., a student of Chögyam Trungpa.

Together we will learn mindfulness, mind-body connection, awareness, and learning to manage our (monkey) minds.

Meditate Palatine will meet on Wednesday nights from 7 pm to 8:30 pm. Please arrive by 6:55 so we can begin promptly at 7.

Our format for exploring this material will consist of listening to or watching a short talk to be followed by a sitting practice.

If you would like to familiarize yourself with the material, the audiobook Awakening the Heart, by Reggie Ray is how I discovered somatic meditation. This book has the whole range of guided meditations included. Also, there is a free learn-to-meditate series on the Dharma Ocean website.

Please feel free to bring your own meditation cushion, bench, and/or zabuton. There are some meditation cushions at the center that you are welcome to use, as well.

You will be asked to remove your shoes upon entering the center, please feel free to bring slippers or thick socks and a blanket for your comfort. Some of the meditations are done lying down. If you have a yoga mat and strap, they will be put to use.

Coffee, tea, and water will be available. Please bring your own mug or water bottle to fill.
