‘You should sit in meditation for 20 minutes a day, unless you are too busy; then you should sit for an hour’ ~ Zen saying Meditation by the Bay offers regular group meditations, as well as one-day retreats featuring meditation, mindfulness and yoga. What is Meditation and what is Mindfulness? Meditation The practice of meditation opens our minds to what is. It is a process that brings our attention to what is happening in the present moment. It quietens the turbulence of the mind so that it becomes calm, silent, yet completely alert. It gives us a chance to step back and pause. We feel more connected to an inner strength, more contented, more at ease with ourselves – and more effective and creative in our daily lives. Mindfulness This is taught as a series of meditative techniques and that can invoke a state of conscious awareness in different circumstances throughout the day. It has seen a steep rise in popularity in recent years as more people become aware of its many benefits. It is defined as “intentional focused awareness in the present moment, without judgement and with curiosity and compassion”.
