Welcome to our next social Meetup. Put the date in your diary.
Come join us on the Medway Makers Discord chat channel.
This session will include a beginners Arduino workshop to learn how to use Neo pixels. We will use an Arduino, a Neopixel ring and two buttons to learn how to make an interactive RGB light. Afterwards, I will be 3D Printing the Minecraft Ore Lamp in the photo above for those who want to put their new found skills to use.
So what is a Neopixel? it is a small LED light that is capable of displaying ANY colour you wish.
What is an Arduino? It is a small programmable board designed for beginners to get into electronics. We will connect the Neopixels to the Arduino to make them display different changing colours and patterns.
Don't worry if this all sounds very technical. Trust me, it is a lot easier than it sounds. The workshop is designed for total noobs so no special skills or experience required. No equipment is needed either as you can follow along as I build the lamp prototype. Otherwise, bring a laptop and your own bits if you wish.
Other projects we may be working on:
• Vintage Radio upgrade
• Touch Screen Chess
• Live streaming Bird Box
• 'Earth' Rover
• House Robot
• Ship ID system
• Weather Station
• Kerbal/Elite flight deck controller
• Mini humanoid robot
• Biltong dryer box
So we've got plenty of interesting ideas. Come along to the next meeting to join in on one of the above projects, start your own project, get help, just watch, or just pop along for a cuppa and a chat. Everyone is welcome.
We meet every 2-3 weeks on a Sunday between 11am and 5pm for a general social and hack session. Everyone is welcome to bring something down and work on it and share and get involved with members projects. There is no fee to join or attend any session. Medway Makers is a place for creative people to get together to make things, learn new skills, make new friends, socialise, talk about ideas, watch people build things and generally be creative.
We have workshops in building cool things with Arduino's, how to code for beginners, writing computer games for an Arduboy or other devices, how to use a Raspberry Pi and so on. We have 3D Printers!
Complete beginners welcome. No prior knowledge, skills or equipment is needed. Just bring yourself and your curious mind. We can provide laptops and equipment if you don't have your own.
Note that we do not have a dedicated space (yet) and so are meeting at members houses until we do.
As this is a residential address it will not be published on this page. Once you have signed up I will send out the address the day before the event. I am in the DA12 area of Gravesend/Chalk.
