About us

Hi !

My name is Carole, I am French, and used to live in English speaking countries for few years.

I’m back in France, in Montpellier, where I intend to stay for a while, and would love to meet new people, exchanging ideas, experiences…

You can be an expat, used to be expat, or someone who wants to spend a moment speaking English, or even someone who would love to improve its English knowledge… from all nationalities of course.

The first organiser of this meet up, Elisabeth, has created it for a short period as she is living in Germany and wanted to meet people from Montpellier when she was on holidays here. I’ve been thinking about creating this group since few months, she is the one that gave me the opportunity !

I joined an « expats » meet up while I was living in Picardie, 2 years ago, the group just started at that time, and they are now 92 members ! I don’t have the pretention to do the same, but would love to have the same spirit they have there. I am allowed by their organiser to pick up some good ideas they used, and I propose you to be part of this adventure !

First meet-up will be on Thursday March the 29th from 20.00 to 22.00 and to be held at La Gazette café, 6 rue Levat in Montpellier.

I am planning to make it happen once a month, and am opened to any comment in case the day doesn’t suit you (I am not even sure myself that Thursday is a good day, as other international meet-up happen on Thursdays). Any suggestion about the place also is welcome.

Please, bring a mate / friend and spread the word ! Hope to see you there !

RSVP if you plan to attend.

Expats in Montpellier's meet up !

Palavas-Les-Flots, 531 Avenue de l'Évêché de Maguelone, Palavas-les-Flots, FR

Every month, come and enjoy speaking english with english speaking lovers : expats, used to be expats, would love to be an expat, but also those who are "internationaly minded"...

" To help me support the increasingly expensive fees of meetup, if everyone can give 1 or 2 euros, it would be really appreciated, many thanks in advance... "

Bring a friend or two, your good mood, a snack to enjoy during the trip, and a bottle of water.

As usual, car sharing more than welcome, so write on the wall who needs a lift, or who has places available in his car.

For new comers, the spot indicated is the center of Montpellier by defaut, in fact, it changes every month, and unfortunately, I update it a couple of days in advance only...

## 🦩 Hike & Pink Flamingos: Étang du Grec Loop 🌊

Hi everyone! This Sunday, let's leave the city behind for a wild escape between the lagoons and the coastline. No steep climbs here—just beautiful Camargue-style landscapes as we walk the loop around the "Étang du Grec."
On the agenda: bird watching (flamingos!), wild horses, fresh sea air, and great company!

### 🚗 Transport, Logistics & Meeting Info

  • Initial Meeting: We will gather at the Garcia Lorca stop (Tram Line 4) at 11:15 AM to introduce ourselves and organize rides. Please be on time!
  • Transport Options:
  • Option 1 (Carpooling): Our primary plan is to fit as many people as possible into cars leaving from Garcia Lorca.
  • Option 2 (Bus): For the remaining group if seats run out. The bus leaves Garcia Lorca sharp at 11:35 AM (don't be late, as the next one is much later!).
  • Option 3 (Direct): You can travel on your own and meet the group at the destination.
  • Final Destination & Arrival: We will all gather at the "Palavas-les-Flots - Salle Bleue" stop at 11:50 AM to start our walk.

### 💰 Fees & Tickets

  • Meetup Contribution: Please bring €1 to €2 (cash) to help cover the organization and Meetup subscription fees.
  • Transport: Make sure to have some change for your bus ticket (or your topped-up TaM card). You can also pay by contactless credit card directly on the bus validators.

### 📍 The Hike

  • Itinerary: A loop of approximately 3 hours at a relaxed pace.
  • Difficulty: Very easy and completely flat.
  • Return: We will catch the return bus from the "Salle Bleue" stop (planned between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM depending on our pace) back to Garcia Lorca.

### 🎒 What to bring

  • Picnic & Water: Essential! We will have lunch by the water.
  • Footwear: Standard sneakers/trainers are perfectly fine for this terrain.
  • Sun Protection: Please note there is no shade on the trail. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat!
  • Bonus: Bring binoculars if you want a closer look at the flamingos!

Looking forward to sharing this sunny walk with you all.
