[Based on a Book] To Kill a Mockingbird
= About "Based on a Book": Whether you've read the book, watched the movie or both, come to our "Based on a Book" events where we discuss the comparisons between the literary and Hollywood-ized versions of popular novels. = About the book: The unforgettable novel of a childhood in a sleepy Southern town and the crisis of conscience that rocked it, To Kill A Mockingbird became both an instant bestseller and a critical success when it was first published in 1960. It went on to win the Pulitzer Prize in 1961 and was later made into an Academy Award-winning film, also a classic. Compassionate, dramatic, and deeply moving, To Kill A Mockingbird takes readers to the roots of human behavior - to innocence and experience, kindness and cruelty, love and hatred, humor and pathos. Now with over 18 million copies in print and translated into forty languages, this regional story by a young Alabama woman claims universal appeal. Harper Lee always considered her book to be a simple love story. Today it is regarded as a masterpiece of American literature. = About the Movie: Trailer: Scout Finch (Mary Badham), 6,and her older brother, Jem (Phillip Alford), live in sleepy Maycomb, Ala., spending much of their time with their friend Dill (John Megna) and spying on their reclusive and mysterious neighbor, Boo Radley (Robert Duvall). When Atticus (Gregory Peck), their widowed father and a respected lawyer, defends a black man named Tom Robinson (Brock Peters) against fabricated rape charges, the trial and tangent events expose the children to evils of racism and stereotyping. What we're about

Life is so busy these days with work, traffic, schedules, name it. Sometimes you really want to socialize with others, but don't have much time for it - you have some work to finish at home and need a break, you need a quick escape from your kids/family, you need to do laundry/wash dishes/vacuum, etc.

We'll have short meetups ("quickie meetups") that'll last about an hour, and it's perfectly O.K. if you need to leave early because we understand! Events can be a short hike around Lake Elizabeth, coffee and conversation, an early morning breakfast at the 50s Diner, etc.

It's my goal to have events be member-led so if you have something you'd like to host, please let me know and I'll set you up as an Event Host.

Given the nature and location of the group, most events will be occurring around the Tri-cities area (Fremont, Newark, Union City).

Yes! As long as you understand that sometimes, people just need to leave your event early to take care of stuff.

That’s perfectly fine as long as you understand that the group meets up for an hour. There may be people who may linger beyond the hour, but it’s not guaranteed.

= GROUP RULES. (Violations may result in group removal)
    + Respect each other.
    + No spamming or solicitation.
+ Settle your bill if you need to leave a dining event early.
