What we're about
This group is NOT for serious runners. Black Girls on the Run is a great group for that. In fact...some of our activities may not be runs at all. We might go indoor rock climbing, or try a ninja wall training. This group isn't for serious athletes either. I fall a lot. I run about a 14 minute mile. I have been trying to get down to 12 for over a year. My exercise partner runs a 16 minute mile on a good day. We both have struggles, injuries, and general busyness with life to ever have time to be SERIOUS athletes.
This group is for anyone willing to work hard to fight the odds against our health. The obesity epidemic has affected all Americans, but it has hit African-American women the hardest, said speaker Cynthia Ogden, PhD, an epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Almost 60 percent of black women are obese, compared with 32 percent of white women and 41 percent of Hispanic women. Lets run some 5ks and gather some bling along the way. We'll compete together, away from the big race gurus, to fix our health, our mindset, and our confidence. Then lets go on to 10Ks, Half-marathons, the Iron-Girl (or Iron Man...we may be partial...but we don't restrict membership to women)....who can stop us?
