LiftMeUp Launch Party - The Party You've Been Waiting For!!!

Details

We are looking for volunteers to help out on the day so please get in touch if you are interested in being part of the team!!

Are you someone going through a rough patch in life? Ever wish you could be in a room full of kind, respectful people that know what you're talking about? We're making your wish come true! We believe in the power of companionship and story sharing in healing the souls wounded by mental health disorders.

LiftMeUp started out as a depression support group in Melbourne CBD two months ago and is now reaching 200 people. We're turning this around into a non-profit organization aiming to provide on-going peer-to-peer support for people with mental health issues. None of us are psychology experts. We're not looking to treat anyone, just a couple of ears seeking to accompany lost souls.

What's On?

The evening will be divided into two sessions. The first session is about sharing stories. For those who attend the support group on Wednesday nights, you will find that the speakers are no strangers but in fact familiar faces that we love to see every week. There will be 3 speakers with 3 different topics in Tedx-style presentation. They will take you through their personal experiences with mental health, sharing their failings and losses as well as lessons they have learnt.

The second session focuses on connecting people through hands-on activities. Expect mindful coloring, origami, laughter yoga, a thoughts & diaries station, a hug station and many more! Who says you can't have fun in depression?

There will also be snacks, tea and coffee throughout the event. A perfect opportunity to meet new people, build meaningful relationships and find out more about how to live a fulfilling life while battling with mental health struggles.

Blue Wristbands

At registration, our lovely volunteers will ask you whether you would like a blue wristband. It is a symbol saying, 'I've been through depression/anxiety/other mental health problems'. As simple as that. You don't have to explain anything to anyone. When you see others wearing the same wristband, you know you are not alone.

Our aim is to create a movement that empowers people with mental health disorders. These issues are real, legitimate and deserve significant care. One day hopefully not far when enough people wear blue wristbands, nobody will ever dare say to you "just get over it!"
