Migrating to Github Actions, the Awesome and the Awful
GitHub Actions provides a powerful framework for running tasks directly from within GitHub. As a tech lead for https://rome2rio.com I've recently ported 126 Azure DevOps build jobs to GitHub Actions (and I'm still mostly sane) - plus a custom deployment system. Let's cover the basics of workflows and then move on to triggers, PR checks, composite actions, deployments & self hosted runners.
About Lachlan:
Lachlan Barclay has been a professional software developer for 22 years (8,045 days). He wrote the Retirement Income Simulator in his role as the lead software developer at Mercer Australia and is currently a tech lead at https://rome2rio.com He has worked for CSIRO, Telstra, Fosters, Sensis, Intrepid Travel, CBM, Defence, Crown Casino & HP, and loves νκΈ but is really bad at it.
He's written articles for oWasp, volunteered at Rhok, been the guitarist in Toehider and played guitar, bass and drums many times at church, written mobile apps, built an arduino MIDI foot pedal, released a few albums, been on TV, ascended nethack and got a Grand Master rank in tetris.
