Inaugural Melbourne Data Engineering Meetup

Details

We're excited to launch the inaugural Melbourne Data Engineering meetup at the end of February. The Fair Work Commission have been kind enough to host us in their offices.

1st Speaker - John McKim, VP of Product & Technology at A Cloud Guru
Title: Data Engineering for Startups
Summary: A Cloud Guru is a fast growing startup in Melbourne. With limited people and budget we’ve built a Data architecture that supports our growing needs. I’ll be talking about the good and bad of our current architecture, buy vs build and the future of data engineering at ACG.
John is the VP of Product & Technology at A Cloud Guru he works with the awesome Product, Design, Development, Security and Data teams to deliver the A Cloud Guru platform.

2nd Speaker - Deborah Chen is a Program Manager on Azure Cosmos DB, focussing on developer experience.
Title: Data modelling best practices for Cosmos DB and NoSQL data.
Description: When you have the schema-less flexibility of a database like Azure Cosmos DB, how should you model your data? We’ll go over some best practices to decide: When do you co-locate data in a single collection vs. multiple collections? Should you de-normalize properties in the same document, or reference them in other documents? What’s the right partition key for your data? In this session, we’ll discuss real-world customer workloads on Azure Cosmos DB, and critical decisions made around data modelling and partitioning.

Looking forward to see you all there!
