NOTE: This is an online meetup over zoom as we want our community members to keep learning during this unusual period.

Abstract:
Functional programming earns its fair share of ivory tower mystique and equal parts narrowed eye cynicism. For my team at Cash App (Square), it was and still remains our favoured way of writing code. This doesn't mean it has be all smooth sailing for the development of our peer to peer Bitcoin platform. I'm talking, onboarding juniors (and seniors!), starting book clubs, having libraries deprecate features under our feet and more. In this talk, let me guide you through the misty waters of functional programming in Kotlin, how we navigated it and tips and tricks you might want to employ and pitfalls to avoid in your next project!

About Milly Rowett:
Milly is a software engineer at Cash App (Square) and likes talking about three Cs: Crypto, Cricket and Cats. When she's not writing Bitcoin software at Cash, She's being a super nerd in DnD or camping in Tasmania with her wife.
