Memphis Outdoor Adventures Message Board The Memphis Hiking Meetup Discussion Forum › IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ!!!!!!

Dana M
Group Organizer
Memphis, TN
Please read the description of the event CAREFULLY. Every week I get multiple phone calls and emails from folks about events that I am not hosting, that are lost, and/or want to know if they can bring their dog.

The time and place of the event are always mentioned AS WELL as the host. Please address any questions about the event TO THE CORRECT HOST. You MUST check the website BEFORE you leave for an event. WE DO NOT HAVE ANY WAY TO CONTACT YOU IF AN EVENT IS CHANGED!!!!

We tailor hikes to the people that show up. If we have someone that can only hike for an hour because of time constraints or physical abilities, we try to accommodate them. We are then usually willing to hike more until the last member is ready to stop. Most of the hikes run between 2-4 hours and are between 5-7 miles long. Please speak up about what you need. We would much rather you hike with us for 1/2 hour to an hour, have a great time, and come again than overdo it and never come back again.

Please bring at least two bottles of water, more if you are bringing a pet.  Jeans are terrible to hike in. The seams ends up chafing after about the first mile. Sweatpants or exercise pants are preferable. Please wear sneakers or hiking shoes (or boots) and socks. Sandles and flip flops are not allowed.  It is always ideal to carry a small backpack with snacks. In the winter, it is important to dress in layers so you can strip off a layers as needed. You will heat up during the hike and cool down RAPIDLY after you have finished hiking.

IF Dana is hosting the hike AND it is local, dogs are more than welcome. Please, only one dog per human. Dogs are usually not allowed on the out of town hikes with the exclusion of Shelby Forest.

If you RSVP yes and can't make it, please make every effort to change your RSVP on the site or by phone. There is nothing more discouraging than having 25-50% of the folks that RSVP pull a no show. It is possible to set up text reminders. They come 2 hours before the event. It has saved me from forgetting an event more than once.

Lastly, please remember that we are not getting paid to do this. We do it because we love it. It actually costs money to run the group. Any donations are GREATLY appreciated.

Hope to see you soon:)
