The Internet is like air, these days. It’s everywhere, and we need it for just about everything. But while elected governments deliver us clean air, businesses deliver us the Internet. And they are exacting from us a multi-trillion dollar fee for doing so. Because even when it’s barely-secure, split across dozens of apps and websites, and badly misunderstood, that’s what our information is worth.
We protect ourselves from predatory governments with elections. We protect ourselves from predatory offline businesses with anti-trust and consumer advocacy. We need to start protecting ourselves from a predatory digital economy.
