Facts and figures
- 50 to 60 km, mostly paved roads, vertical meters (cumulative): 700m
After 7 km of uphill riding (about 250 vertical meters) partly on forest paths we will reach the historical „Kaisersträßle“ close to the impressive 700 years old Emperors Oak. Here we will have a first little rest with a nice view on the Schwäbische Alb mountain chain including Hohenstaufen.
After 5 km we have the option to visit Adelberg Monastery – chapel and garden.
Following the „Kaisersträßle“ we will soon arrive at Wäscherschloss Castle- the Staufers dynasty´s origin. The excellently preserved castle with its formidable stone walls was built between 1220 and 1250. The castle hosts an interesting historical museum and a beer garden where we will have our halfway rest.
Our final destination is **Lorch Monastery –**founded in 1102 as burial place of the house of Staufen with its romanesque church und tower. An amazing circular panorama painting offers a temporal und spatial trip through the entire history of the house of Staufen including Emperor Friedrich Barbarossa dying on a crusade.
Opposite the monastery entrance a reconstructed Roman watch tower marks the Limes, i.e. former boarder of the Roman Empire and provides a nice view.
Afterwards we will ride back to Schorndorf railway station following the Remstal Radweg.
