Schemas Beyond The Edge

Alexei Zenin, Software Engineer, Uken Games

Serverless, Schema Registry & Protobuf. This talk will go through the migration of a mobile analytics pipeline from JSON to Protobuf serving millions of mobile client devices. We will go over how to tackle taking your data silos to a GitOps paradigm, effectively modelling your events in Protobuf, integration patterns for Schema Registry in the mobile space, and cap off with CI/CD integrations to keep the entire system in sync effortlessly. The end result is a pipeline that saves both time and money by several times in operating the infrastructure to creating and publishing new event schemas with the click of a button.

Alexei Zenin is a software engineer in Toronto, Canada, where he has worked at both small startups and large organizations with 100,000+ employees. His experience has taken him from delivering Android apps to help with addiction and mental health, to revitalizing architectures using Kafka, to working abroad internationally in Colombia, spearheading the modernization of processes and solution architecture. Currently, he works as a platform engineer at Uken Games, dealing with all things related to automation, microservices, and event-driven pipelines.
