Azure Cosmos DB represents a paradigm shift in the way you build, access and optimize database-connected applications. Part of adopting Cosmos DB in your organization is going beyond the "hello world" tutorials and really diving into and learning the database engine and the nuances to working with a globally distributed, multi-model platform. In this talk, we will explore the reality of building greenfield applications powered by Cosmos DB. We will look at real world examples including; authoring stored procedures that can pause and resume to handle server-side timeouts, tuning queries to take advantage of scaled throughput, using the SQL query language to "emulate" JOINs on a non-relational database, and designing a partitioning strategy that will scale as your database scales.
