Leave No Trace Outdoor Ethics Awareness Certification Course

Join Courtney for a Leave No Trace Training Course and become Certified in the Leave No Trace Outdoor Ethics Principles! We'll be learning the Leave No Trace principle in a fun and interactive class. No boring lectures here! You'll be asked to join in, move around, and get involved to learn the core principles of Leave No Trace.

As a class attendee you'll recieve the following for you to keep:

  • A set of plastic waterproof reference cards
  • 2 pocket guides to keep in your pack
  • A detailed North America Skills and Ethics Booklet
  • A super cool bumper sticker
  • A super duper official certificate for attending from Leave No Trace!

 What is Leave No Trace?

Leave No Trace is a national and international program designed to assist outdoor enthusiasts with their decisions about how to reduce their impacts when they hike, camp, picnic, snowshoe, run, bike, hunt, paddle, ride horses, fish, ski or climb. The program strives to educate all those who enjoy the outdoors about the nature of their recreational impacts as well as techniques to prevent and minimize such impacts.

Leave No Trace is best understood as an educational and ethical program, not as a set of rules and regulations.

Who Should Attend this Class?

Everyone! All attendees have a chance to learn something new in this class! Whether you do long strenous hikes, short easy hikes, walk, photography, or somewhere in between. By learning how to preserve your favorite trails, you're ensuring that they'll be around for a long time to enjoy.

What should I wear?

Comfy clothes and shoes. If we have time, we might go on a short hike nearby

How long is the class?

Expect to stay for 2-3 hours.

What will I learn in this class?

You'll learn about the 7 principles of Leave No Trace

  • Plan ahead and prepare
  • Travel and camp on durable surfaces
  • Dispose of waste properly
  • Leave what you find
  • Minimize campfire impacts
  • Respect wildlife
  • Be considerate of other visitors

We'll also touch on the principles that are specific to your local trails and streets in the city or suburbs. These areas are called The Frontcountry. You may not run into a bear, but you do come in contact with all sorts of wildlife. These principles resemble the original Leave No Trace principles but are designed for your local trails.

  • Know before you go
  • Stick to trails and camp overnight right
  • Trash your trash and pick up poop
  • Leave it as you find it
  • Be careful with fire
  • Keep wildlife wild
  • Share our trails and manage your pet
