Milford Contra Dance! Fourth Friday of the Month. All dances taught!

All dances are taught and walked through, beginners highly encouraged! Come dance, watch, or sit in with the open band! $7, $5 students and seniors. Under 12 are free. Bring clean shoes to protect the floor! Live music (often a 15+ piece band) of piano, fiddles, guitars, cello, bass, banjo, mandolin and other cool instruments. The music is lively jigs and reels from Irish, Scottish, French-Canadian and American Old Time traditions. Come dance, watch, or sit in with the open band! $7, $5 students and seniors. Under 12 are free. Please bring clean-soled shoes to protect the floor! Potluck refreshments are welcomed. So what happens at a Contra Dance? First off, you do not need to come with a partner. You can come in by yourself or a group of friends. The caller gives a short introductory session at 7:30. Dancing begins with the caller inviting everyone to take a partner for that dance and "line up for a contra". The dance is walked through first without music. The movements are simple and done to a walking step; there is no fancy footwork to learn. Then the caller cues the band and the music starts. Each of the figures of the dance are called just before they are done. The Milford Dance always has some brand new dancers so you're never alone. It also always has some experienced dancers who are friendly and helpful. You'll be dancing and smiling in no time at all!
