• Dinner @ El Fuego

    El Fuego Mexican Restaurante

Its Monday Fun Day in Milwaukee... Come have food and merriment with us on the back patio on El Fuego. According to the website, "Milwaukee's authentic Mexican cuisine and some of the finest margaritas in the land!" El Fuego has food for meat-a-tarians, vegetarians, gluten free, and Ryan. They have sun, water, and fajitas, like a beach in Florida. They also promised separate checks. If this is not alluring enough for a Monday evening, we can maybe throw in a mariachi band...

  • Rosé or Orange? A Unique Wine Tasting

What is an orange wine? What is a rosé anyway? Join me to explore wines that are neither red nor white, but somewhere in between! The amazing flavors and colors of these wines demonstrate the art of winemaking like no other class of wines. Never heard of orange wine? That is OK - it is an old style of wine making a comeback and it is not made of oranges, just grapes! We will taste a variety of wines to sample the full spectrum of these two styles. This tasting will be lead by me (Sherry) at my home in Riverwest. I have been hosting wine tastings at my house for the last 6 months and recently completed a certification as a Wine and Spirits Educator. My goal for this event is to help you enjoy and learn about wine, not try to sell you something! As an educator and scientist, I want to help you enjoy wine through an entertaining and educational experience. My wine tastings are like a party in a university classroom, not a wine sales pitch. Join me to learn and have fun at the same time! To cover the cost of the wine, etc Please pre-purchase a $25 ticket through eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/rose-or-orange-tasting-the-skins-tickets-66640729215?aff=efbeventtix&fbclid=IwAR2XUk_KO84tKY8lQQPazJiG-fw_phsvARIelrmVgqid9_hckvIrmp8Z_Ug To see other events I have hosted check out my wine tasting interest group! https://www.facebook.com/groups/2041118142672651/

  • MKE Food Adventure @ Sofrito's Vega (Puerto Rican Cuisine)

Please Note: This restaurant is very small. We will not accept cancellations the day of. If you must cancel, please do so at least 24 hours in advance. Otherwise you'll be marked a no show. Also, this is a cash only establishment. Join MSP for another MKE Food Adventure, this time at Sofrito's Vega Puerto Rican Restaurant. To help the restaurant plan, we've been asked to order in advance if possible. Please take a look at the menu (located in photos) and post in comments what you would like to eat by Friday at 6pm. We'll be shooting the restaurant an email with our orders. If you don't manage to do it in time that is ok, but ordering in advance is preferred. If you're looking for guidance, here is some general information, followed by Allison's suggestions: Puerto Rican cuisine combines elements of Spanish, African, and Taino cultures. The Taino culture is the native culture of many Caribbean islands, and is known for the use of many root vegetables and especially yuca (starchy, like a potato). Africa contributed many ingredients, the most commonly seen one being gandules (English: pigeon peas). And of course Spain contributed onion, garlic and cilantro, three key ingredients (along with bell peppers) that make up sofrito. This is the delicious base of many Puerto Rican dishes and the basis of the restaurant's name. Well known dishes include: - Arroz con gandules (yellow rice with pigeon peas), a popular side dish. - Mofongo (mashed plantain and root vegetables with pork and garlic), an Afro-Puerto Rican dish. - Bistec en cebollado (steak with thinly sliced onion) (please note this is Ryan food). - Pernil (delicious baked pork, also Ryan friendly), which the owner says is one of their best dishes. We're really looking forward to this one. Hope to see you there!
