To Mead or Not to Mead.

Hello Wine Enthusiasts!

We have only one spot left for our Kick-off Summer Magnum event at Balzac next week. RSVPs close tomorrow.  If your plans have changed, PLEASE update your attendance accordingly. If you have not yet paid your membership dues, please do so by Tuesday, May 22nd.  This is a Magnum event and only available to members whose dues are current. I encourage you to pay your membership dues online through our website via PayPal.  You can find the link on the left side of the page just under Upcoming and Past Meetups and Our Calendar. Please contact me if you encounter any problems.

Well, the poll results are in regarding your preferences concerning a three or more course food and wine pairing meal. 94% of voters are interested in this type of Magnum event.  A slight majority of you plan your attendance to MWL events 3 - 4 weeks in advance, followed closely by those of you who usually do not plan much beyond 2 weeks. A little over half of you would prefer not to spend much more than $60 for a three course food and wine pairing meal, again followed by slightly less than half of you who would be willing to spend $70 - $85 per person for the same event. Hands down, the majority of you would like your meal paired with reds, whites, and dessert wine. Most of you would prefer dinner over lunch, as well as a cooking demonstration.  It was a toss up between members willing to pay $10 or $20 extra for this service. I will do my best to meet as many expectations as I can to plan this event for the fall.  I have a place in mind and will begin to work with them to see what we can do to make this a reality.

I have just posted another poll concerning the concert in the park Demi event that I am planning for July.  I have a few choices in mind.  However, they all have pros and cons.  Some do not allow you to bring your own wine, while others do and some have lots of children, while other's don't.  Please take a moment to view the poll http://www.meetup.com/Milwaukee-Wine-Lovers/polls/ and let me know your preferences.

I am happy to announce that we have had a member come forward and is willing to host a Magnum event at his home this summer. Look for details to be posted sometime this next week for a BYOB event in late June.

If you have no plans for tomorrow evening, 106seeboth will be hosting a wine tasting of Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon from across the globe tomorrow, Friday, May 18th from 7 - 10 PM. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the bar or by phone at (414) 224-7724. 106seeboth is a lounge and bistro located between the 3rd and the 5th wharf. Valet parking is available.

Also, all Sendiks stores are having a Mega Wine Sale beginning today through Sunday, May 20th. Several wines are drastically reduced. If your favorite is not on sale, all other wine is 15% off any bottles between $15 - $50.  I have no idea, however, if this includes Mead.

Our wine word for the week...

Mead: A wine-like alcoholic beverage made of fermented honey and water rather than grape juice.
