I have just moved to Milwaukee and I am desperate to find good pizza in the area. Locals tell me this is the very best! Let's find out! Or, if you've been here before, grab your favorite pizza and we can swap slices.
Zaffiro's is a hole-in-the-wall pizza place that has been a part of the fabric of Milwaukee's East Side since 1954. Expect red-and-white checked tablecloths, a friendly staff and great pizza, but do not expect an extensive wine list or a quiet secluded table. Zaffiro's is all about the food.
Tina tells me:
The food is excellent, old fashioned thin-crust pizza and Italian dishes. The atmosphere is relaxed -- no need to dress up. There are no surprises -- it's been the same for more than 50 years.
Don't expect to find many "heart-healthy" selections. It's been the same for more than 50 years, so no creative new-school toppings. Atmosphere is very casual, a minus if you're looking for fine dining.
Ate here Saturday night after the Reds game, Unfortunately the Brewers lost. But the pizza made up for it. Arrived before 6 and the place was busy but there was an open table for us. We didn't have to wait very long after ordering for our pizza, maybe 20 min, fast compared to Chicago pies. The pies were smothered with toppings could hardly see the cheese underneath, but the crust, OH the crust. paper thin and crispy. I will go back again without a doubt. Best thin crust I have found in over 30 years. and we know pizza was in the business for over 20 years. Thank you Zaffiros
