What we’re about
This is a hiking group for those who enjoy a little challenge off the beaten path and who also like to take some time to breathe, photograph, or meditate and contemplate the various environments we explore--inner and outer. If you are fit enough for a few miles and some cross-country and some scrambling--singles, friends, or couples-- and like to explore, come and join us!

See all- East Zion: Rock Art LoopDavis Food & Drug, La Verkin, UT
Rating: 4 miles total, with 1200 feet of climbing. Moderate to strenuous. One short steep bit with a hand line. Altitude is 6000ft.
Zion backcountry limit: 12 hikers.
----
This hike is in conjunction with Red Rock Hiking, and the available spots are being split between the two groups.
----
The hike starts on East Canyon Road above the long tunnel.
The route is mostly rough cross-country and kinda tiring and steep. On the other hand, it's also drop dead beautiful, and it's a way-cool route too! You will not be sorry. Oh, and there is indeed a small, little-known rock art panel along the way, very nice.Bighorn sheep may be seen if we're lucky. Most of the terrain close to the route is rather steep, and the bighorns like that. ;)
After a spectacular descent near the East Temple, we'll finish up back on the road near where we started.
In short, it's a fabulous tramp amongst huge white buttes, along rocky ridges above tree-lined canyons, and across large expanses of red and white sandstone. There's even a friendly little hoodoo for a group photo! :)
----
Caution: One short bit on the route is semi-advanced, due to steepness.
Experienced scramblers will not have a problem, and for beginners we'll have a hand line to make it a little easier. However, those with a very strong fear of heights should skip this hike.
----
Generally there's lots of slanted sandstone and other semi-risky stuff to negotiate thruout the hike, and a small amount of actual rock climbing, so you will need to have some experience on such terrain.
----
Prep: Two big bottles of water, sun hat for the end of the hike. Non-slip footwear is mandatory, no leather soles please! Some food is nice. Leather gloves are very good to have when you have to grip the rock a lot. There is very much white rock, so sunglasses help quite a lot.
Meet: 7am Saturday at the La Verkin Sinclair Gas Station, then drive to Zion and up thru the tunnel to the trailhead a half-mile beyond.
----
See you there! M+J :)
