Double Feature! The Future of Quality & Practicing the Theory of Constraints

Details

For the late September meetup we have a treat in store, two presentations at a brand new venue!

The presenters are Dan Barrow and James Espie who used to run and produce the popular SuperTestingBros podcast but have since taken different paths.

Dan's talk takes a look at the future of testing and makes some pointers on how best to prepare for the road ahead.

James is demonstrating an interesting method to identify and remove bottlenecks in your organisation.

Dan Barrow
Topic Title:
Predicting the future of Quality - Through an understanding of delivery formats

Topic Summary:
I will put forward my prediction on the future of ‘testing’ based on an examination of the evolving needs of the software development industry. We’ll apply 3 defect scenarios onto the development methodologies of the eras and investigate the needs of the time and how testing was applied, we’ll end look at current development trends and examine if the current testing practices still fit these needs and how quality needs to evolve.

About Dan:
Dan is a Quality Advocate and Head of Quality at Conqa Software.
He believes Quality lies in the hands of the creators and believes in coaching and developing quality focus and techniques in the developers he works with. He’s fascinated with understanding the problem that software is trying to solve and identifying how quality looks for these specific problems. A deep interest in team dynamics and methodologies keeps Dan looking for new and different ways to empower teams to achieve.

James Espie
Topic Title:
Practicing the theory of constraints - fancy words for a simple way to make software better.

Topic Summary:
"The theory of constraints" is a way to identify and clear bottlenecks in your development process.
We'll look at what it means exactly, some examples, and how we can put it into practice.
Trust me, it'll be fun.

About James:
James is a software tester, currently helping to build digital human experiences at Uneeq. He's a big believer in making life better for everyone - by building helpful, easy-to-use software; by helping other testers get better at their craft; or by taking his friends to the pub. You can find him as @jamesespie on Twitter.
