Given the recent escalations in the COVID-19 pandemic, and the NZ Government's actions to limit the spread of the virus, we feel the most responsible plan of action is to postpone face-to-face meetups until further notice. Registration fee refunds will be processed shortly.

Our thanks to Vista for their offer of hospitality on the 24th and we look forward to meeting there again when this has all died down.

In the meantime we are looking to trial "Virtual Meetups" and are hoping to go ahead on the 24th, at 8pm with Ali's "Mocks and Testability" talk online.

Most of the times, when we develop software, we rely on third party services to accomplish a certain outcome so that we don't have to re-invent the wheel. However, this introduces a new level of complexity, especially around testability. What should our end-to-end test cover? How to test this integration? Is the integration making our automation suite slower?
During this session, we will discuss how mocking solves a part of these problems, go over mocking pros and cons, and show a small demo where we replace a third party system by a mock server.

About Ali Haydar:
Ali is a software engineer and quality enthusiast, always seeking to learn new things (usually about technology). He's been in the software industry for 12 years or so, and has had the opportunity to explore diverse tech roles and build different skills - with a special deep dive into testing and automation.
He's currently a software engineer at Spidertracks - utilising and building his skills in development and cloud architecture, using JavaScript (React & NodeJS) and AWS services to build a product that helps make the aviation community a safer place to live and operate in.
