MoT Berlin #19 - Code quality in Continuous Testing & Valley of Success

We are happy to announce our next meetup! Two topics from two really brilliant minds, Mark Raihlin and Titus Fortner. This time we will meet up at the GameOn Berlin Event Location:

Before and after the talks there will be time for discussion, networking, drinks etc. Entrance is as always free and we can try out some of the Arcades after the talks.

19:00 Titus Fortner - Valley of Success

While the industry is moving toward continuous delivery and continuous testing, most companies still struggle to maintain successful test automation suites. Many automated test efforts focus on the wrong things, and are structured in ways that make it too easy to fail.

This talk will walk through how to focus a testing strategy and organize testing code to get good value from test execution. In addition to big picture strategies, the talk will cover specific examples for how to obtain significant improvements in several different components of a test framework, including successful test writing, data management, page object abstractions and synchronization.

Bio: Titus Fortner is a core contributor to Selenium, is the project lead for Watir, and has written multiple open source testing libraries and tools for use within the Selenium ecosystem. Titus has implemented automated tests at five different companies before joining Sauce Labs as a Solution Architect, where he provides training and code feedback to the community to facilitate successful testing practices.

20:00 Mark Raihlin - Code Quality in Continuous Testing

While continuous testing tools are gaining traction, source code reviews are still highly manual and unstandardised – making agile teams spend hours configuring linters, peer reviewing common mistakes, and paying off technical debt.
Codacy automatically analyses every Commit and Pull Request, providing instant feedback on security concerns, duplications, complexity, and drops in coverage – all directly within Github and Bitbucket. In this talk Mark Raihlin will show how hundreds of open source projects – like Zalenium – automate their code quality for free with Codacy, and share some best practices and tips on how you can get started within minutes.

Bio: Mark was the second person to join Codacy's business side and has since worked with hundreds of engineering teams, helping them identify gaps in their review process and embed Codacy with their existing workflow.

Thanks to Sauce Labs for hosting and sponsoring food & drinks!
