Exploring Automation in Testing with Richard Bradshaw
Most of us are working with test automation in one way or another as testers, programmers and managers. We'd like to see you at this meet-up as trainer and co-author of Automation in Testing Richard Bradshaw is in Copenhagen. We've arranged with him to explore principles for automation in our own contexts.
Can we test better when we automate testing? Richard says we can - let's learn and discuss how by working with our real challenges.
- Supporting testing over replicating testing
- Testability over automatability
- Testing expertise over coding expertise
- Problems over tools
- Focusing on risk over coverage
- Observability over understanding
The meet up will have two sub-sessions: First, Richard will introduce the principles and how and why he and Mark Winteringham arrived at them after spending 10+ years working with and thinking about test automation. Second, the rest of evening is about your experiences: After Richards' introduction, we will split up and work with the principles for our own cases. Our regular organiser and experienced facilitator Anders Dinsen will facilitate the conversations. Our sponsor EPICO will ensure we don't run out of energy as there will be soda, coffee and sandwiches.
Preparation: Please think about your problems and challenges in test automation. We'd like to hear them.
Richard first muttered the words ‘Automation in Testing’ during a podcast with Mark Tomlinson back in 2014. After recording the podcast, the host Mark asked Richard for a title, and he simply couldn’t come up with one. Mark made several suggestions all with ‘Test Automation’ in them, but to Richard, it wasn’t about test automation, it was about automation. After some pondering, Richard declared it should be called Automation in Testing because everything he had spoken of what about using automation to support his testing efforts. He’s continued to talk about AiT since then. Read more at automationintesting.com
