About us

🚨 IMPORTANT INFORMATION 🚨

We have some exciting news! As part of our move into the MoTaverse, the Ministry of Testing Manchester group is officially migrating away from [Meetup.com.](http://meetup.com./)

Going forward, we are now known as a Chapter, and we have a brand-new home where all our future events, photos, and talks will live.

### Why the move?

By joining us on the new Chapter page, your participation now counts toward your professional growth. In the MoTaverse, you’ll earn stars and badges for attending events, which display directly on your MoT profile to showcase your contributions to the community.
It’s all part of our goal to provide "Community-as-a-Service"—bringing learning, events, and networking into one seamless experience.

### What you need to do:

To stay in the loop for our upcoming Manchester events, please head over to our new page and join the Chapter:

We’ll be phasing out this [Meetup.com](http://meetup.com/) group shortly, so make sure you make the jump today so you don't miss our next gathering!

For a deeper look at why we’re making these changes, you can check out Rosie Sherry's post: Meetups are now Chapters.

See you in the MoTaverse!

Welcome to the next MoT Manchester Chapter event: the human element, where we'll be testing beyond the happy path.

This evening has been designed to take us out of our comfort zones and into the real world with a little bit of chaos. We will not be just talking about Quality, we will be experiencing it, living it.
We’ll kick things off with Adam Davis, who will turn this very room into a living, breathing (and likely chaotic) system to show us what happens when we lose control of our environment.

After a quick break, Nicola Furniss will challenge our internal biases, shifting our perspective to those often left behind by "standard" design and testing.

We’ll wrap up with our signature 99-Second Talks, your chance to take the stage and share your thoughts, followed by plenty of time to swap stories over a drink.

📍Matillion - Two, New Bailey St, Stanley St, Salford M3 5GS

    SCHEDULE

    • 17:30 - Arrival
    • 18:00 - Welcome from MoT Team
    • 18:15 - Testing what you can’t control - by Adam Davis

This is a short, demo-led session where the audience becomes part of the test. Using your phones, we’ll turn the room into a live system and watch what happens as it runs in real time. At first it looks like everything is working together, but small differences start to appear. Things don’t line up perfectly, and behaviour across devices isn’t always the same. It’s a simple way to see how real systems behave outside of perfect conditions, and what that means when it comes to testing them. Supported by a small number of slides, but centred around a live demo.

    • 18:45 - Break
    • 19:15 - Who are we leaving out? Put yourself in the eyes of your users - by Nicola Furniss

Accessibility gaps often hide in plain sight. This session invites you to step into different user perspectives and challenge assumptions in how we design, build and test software. Through interactive exercises, we’ll reveal overlooked issues and explore how inclusive development can lead to more accessible products for all.

    • 19:45 - 99-Second Talks
    • 20:00 - Networking
    • 21:00 - Home or pub!
