Essentials Meetup Manchester - Become A Mentor

Details
Essentials Manchester (formerly the Software Testing Clinic) is here! For those new to Essentials Meetups, these are free meetups, providing training for those looking to get into software testing as well as those already here looking to upskill and cement existing knowledge.
We’re really excited to be bringing Essentials to Manchester, and we’ll be kicking it all off with our first session, Become a Mentor. The first session for students will be announced in the coming days, so look out for that.
Huge thanks to the N Brown Group for providing us with office space for all 12 meetups :)
Who Should Attend?
We’re are looking for mentors to support Richard Bradshaw and Claire Reckless, Essential Manchester hosts, in delivering the Essentials Curriculum across 12 meetups in 2020. The role of a mentor is to facilitate and support 4-6 students during each meetup.
If any of these apply to you, consider coming along to learn more:
- Experienced in software testing
- Experienced in facilitating and mentoring
- A desire to teach others
- Want to improve your mentoring skills
- Want to improve your coaching skills
You won’t be expected to mentor at every meetup, and you can switch to attending as a student if you don’t feel comfortable mentoring on a specific topic.
What We’ll Cover
In this session, we will share all the information you need to be a mentor during Essentials Manchester 2020.
Learning outcomes:
- Describe what the Essentials meetup does
- Describe the different workshop styles we present
- Explain what their role is in the process of helping students in regular sessions
- Describe what mentoring is
- Describe what the role of a mentor is
- Display understanding of the perspective of the Mentee
- Execute different mentor techniques such as asking questions, building rapport and active listening
What is Essentials?
