Jan #MidsTest: Riskstorming with Ben Fellows

Details
To start off 2020, and our desire for more workshops, Ben Fellows will be running a workshop on "Riskstorming", which was successful in February 2019.
Not all testing is equal, because not all aspects of a software product are equal. Some aspects are more important than others or are more likely to fail in important ways. At CELCAT, we view risks in testing as anything that could go wrong in our product for the customer. The more likely something is to go wrong, or the bigger impact it will have, then the higher the risk and the more time we prioritise to testing it.
The problem is risks can be difficult to identify and agree upon. To help solve this problem, we employ a technique known as Riskstorming. Riskstorming is an idea originally developed by by Beren Van Daele (@isleoftesting) as a way to “focus a team on quality and risks”.
Ben will be taking you through a Riskstorming workshop as performed at CELCAT. The workshop will begin by going over the features and functions of a driverless taxi, the product we'll be Riskstorming. There will then be a short introduction to the workshop including the three stages of Riskstorming: agree quality criteria, brainstorm risks and choose tests. We'll then split into small groups around a table each set up with a Riskstorming board, set of TestSphere cards, as well as pens and sticky notes required for the session. The final product will be a fully usable risk-map that can be used as a starting point in testing. At the end, there will be a few minutes to compare and contrast the different risks we've come up with together.
About Ben:
Ben is the Software Test Coach at CELCAT and a long-term attendee of MidsTest, having previously spoken about a tester's role and relationship with developers.
******************************
Networking is until 19:00, so you are welcome to arrive early, chat with people and use the pool table.
Then the workshop will begin, followed by complimentary food & further networking until 21:00 (but you don't have to stay that late if you don't want to).
After the talk there is the opportunity for all attendees to take part in 99 Second Talks, where they can use the time to trial a presentation they plan to give, ask for help to the community, share something they are passionate about, virtually anything they can think of.
There will be food and drink for our attendees, courtesy of our fabulous sponsors - Woodrow Mercer, who will also host us in their offices in central Birmingham.
Finally, due to the location, we are unable to have you attend if you are a recruiter for another company, apologies.
