UI Testing without Selenium (Cypress and Backstop demos)

Details
Selenium tends to be the default tool for testing web-based user interfaces. Tonight we will see demonstrations of two alternative ways of testing the UI, as well as the opportunity to take part in a series of 99 Second Talks (a popular activity at TestBash conferences).

Automated Browser Testing with Cypress presented by Jesse Buchanan
Cypress is a next generation front end testing tool built for the modern web, capable of executing unit, integration, and full E2E tests. Cypress advertises that you can โWrite your first passing test in 60 seconds.โ, and Jesse will show you how that is possible with a full dive into how Cypress can be used to automate and expand your testing coverage. -
Visual Testing using BackstopJS, presented by Palak Desai
Do you want to test your website for visual UI changes that functional testing can miss? Visual testing makes it possible by analyzing your website and doing comparisons to find bugs which can be easily missed by the naked eye. Weโll show you the kinds of problems that visual testing can solve, how to get started with BackstopJS, interesting examples from the CBC codebase, and what weโve learned about how it compares to other similar tools. -
99 Second Talks
This is an open invite for YOU to speak for 99 seconds about anything to do with testing/QA. You donโt need to sign up in advance or prepare a presentation, just think about something you might want to talk about and volunteer when the time comes. This is an opportunity to introduce yourself, talk about a tool or technique you love, ask a question of the audience, pitch some new idea, pitch an old idea, or virtually anything else. The floor is yours!
