James Lyndsay - The basic pathologies of simple systems

Details
Hi everyone,
Please join us in Rotterdam for a meetup with special guest James Lyndsay. He will be facilitating an interactive sessions about the basic pathologies of simple systems: in this hands-on track, you’ll explore very simple systems to discover surprising emergent behaviours. You’ll find dynamic systems that (under some conditions) resonate, explode, jitter or simply die. We’ll look at the ways that systems produce such behaviours, how to trigger them, how to observe them, and how you might be able to regulate them in the complex systems we build. You’ll find this useful if your system is more than the sum of its parts.
Bring a device with a browser, and have fun with systems analysis.
We will follow up James his session with two shorter talks:
What makes a great modern-day tester? - Arjan Blok
Back in the day, when cars ran on petrol, drones were something only the army could afford and we all worked on waterfall projects. Testing was a science; TMAP/ISTQB in your left hand, elaborate specifications in your right. Fast-forward to today; a world where pragmatism and gut-feeling are more important than ever and test automation is a necessity. So what is needed for a modern-day tester to add value to their team?
Using Mind Maps for Team Communication - Elizabeth Zagroba
Are you not sure where to start planning your testing? Are you exposing the complexities of the product when testing is taking a long time? Can your track the results of your testing in a way that your team can follow while it's happening? Have you stopped writing test plans and test reports because they're slowing the team down? Elizabeth Zagroba will show you some examples of how mind maps have helped solve these kinds of communication issues and helped share the responsibility for quality with the whole team.
