[EVENING] Third-Wave Thinking - Fraser Crichton

Details

ABOUT THE TALK
The test community, much like the rest of IT, is abuzz with jargon: BDD, TDD, Cucumber, shift-left, CI, CD, and so on. Loading your CV with these acronyms and being able to talk coherently about them is the first step in getting any job interview in technology. However, as developers have shouldered much of the work of ensuring software quality, organisations are beginning to question the role of 'testers'. Justifying your role just because you can maintain a test automation framework is, I think, rightly being called into question. How did we get here? And what is it that people working in technology can do to ensure they have a sustainable career? I think one answer is to challenge our unconscious biases continually.

What you may get out of it:
An understanding of how the job market for testers is set for radical and timely change
Checks vs Tests and the value of exploratory testing
How much is too much automation
Insight into Production Monitoring - aka testing in production (!)
Some understanding of what's different about working across the ditch in Australia
Insight into the radical impact of colour photography on the British fine art establishment
