Ryan Boyd from Neo4j will be presenting how to use graphs to combine OLTP (On-line Analytical Processing) and OLAP (On-line Analytical Processing). Ryan will take us from the beginning, walk through each technology, and explore using Neo4j to combine each for maximum effect and impact.

Ryan Boyd, Geek and Director of Developer Relations at Neo4j, is a frequent speaker, author, developer and developer relations guru with a background in coding, leadership and management. Some would also say he is Neo4j’s YouTube celebrity.

OLTP (On-line Transaction Processing), typically employed to support business processes, is characterized by a large number of short on-line transactions (INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE). The main emphasis for OLTP systems is put on very fast query processing, maintaining data integrity in multi-access environments and an effectiveness measured by number of transactions per second. In an OLTP database there is detailed and current data, and schema used to store transactional databases is the entity model.

OLAP (On-line Analytical Processing), typically employed to support business data warehouses, is characterized by relatively low volume of transactions. Queries are often very complex and involve aggregations and OLAP applications are widely used by Data Mining techniques. In an OLAP database there is aggregated, historical data, stored in multi-dimensional schemas.
