Talk Details
What exactly is WordPress and why do 30% of all internet sites use it? We’ll start there in our discussion and move on briefly to WordPress structure, core files and database. I’ll show you what you need to know to get up and running with a blog or simple website. How to set it up, use the dashboard, create posts and pages, make a menu, use the media library, upload images and add a plugin. I’ll give you tips on how to choose themes and plugins. We can customize the discussion as we move along so we can focus on what you would like me to talk about.
Additional topics for tonight or a later date could include: adding a secondary menu, anatomy of a WordPress page (it gets complicated), customizing with CSS, how and why to create a child theme, categories and how to use them to customize your pages, meta information, media requirements, incorporating video, adding or changing theme features by safely editing php files. . .
Group Discussion - What did you learn?
We go around in a circle and share what we learned in WordPress in the last month. All answers are valid and anyone can pass if they want. Sometimes answers are related to peripheral tools that may be used with WordPress and this is completely acceptable.

Mission
WordPress is a vast community serving the needs of many members. As women who are instrumentally involved in the WordPress community, we formed Women Who WP to address the unique needs that females of all ages experience in a field that is predominantly male. Anyone who RSVPs is welcome to attend Women Who WP events – we are women-inclusive, not gender-exclusive. All attendees are expected to abide by the Women Who WP Code of Conduct.

We are currently looking for co-organizers, leaders, and sponsors.
