It’s time to plan another venture up the creek. We have selected Presley’s Outing as the next venue. If you’ve not been to Presley’s, you’ve been missing a real treat. With its huge sand beaches, campgrounds, sports activities, and restaurant, it’s a great destination without kayaking, BUT, we are going kayaking. Mark your calendar for May 18. We did this paddle in the rain last September and it was one of our best trips, even with the rain.
The plan is to split the paddling into two parts, a 1 hour morning round trip paddle up Jackson Creek and a 2 hour afternoon paddle down the Escatawpa River and up Franklin Creek. See the attached map for details. (The starting point for both is from Presley’s on Goodes Mill Lake) Let’s meet at Presley’s at 9:30 and head up Jackson Creek for about an hour, leaving at 10:00. Once we get back to Presley’s, we can relax and have lunch before heading down river at 1:00. The Franklin Creek leg will be a one way trip of about 5 miles. We plan to stage a few vehicles at the pull out point on Franklin Creek so we can carry everyone back to their vehicle at Presley’s, about a half mile away.
With two paddles and a break in the middle, you have the option of doing one or both trips. Presley’s Outing offered to waive the entrance fee for that day, just state that you are with the kayaking group. They also rent kayaks (Call Lynn @[masked] for details and reservations). The restaurant specializes in BBQ and sandwiches. Please note that there is a NO ALCOHOL policy at Presley’s. The attached map should get you there after taking the Franklin Creek Exit off I-10 (Last exist just before the Al. line)
These two creeks and the Escatawpa River are some of the prettiest waterways in the county. This is one that you do not want to miss. Hope to see you there.
Also mark your calendar for a twilight paddling Parade in Pascagoula for the afternoon/evening of June 21. Details to follow later.
